SERVICES WILL NOT BE HELD ON SUNDAY, MARCH 15, 2020
LIVESTREAM AND PODCAST ONLY
With an abundance of caution and a heart full of trust in Spirit, we have made the decision NOT to hold services in the Sanctuary this coming Sunday. Kit Holmes and the Sunday Band will be present, along with limited A/V staff, to livestream the service and podcast will be available.
This decision was not made lightly. Kit, Llea, Chip Slade (Board President), and I have discussed all the possibilities, scenarios, and safety measures that inform our decision-making. We have considered national and local trends for facilities and event closures. Most importantly, Kit and I listened to a conference call today offered by the Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. Health professionals from Houston Methodist Hospital and community leaders were on the call with the latest information from the CDC. The best advice seems to be curtailing church activities, including Sundays, for the near future, in churches with 200 or more in attendance. Those with illnesses and those in compromised populations are encouraged not to come to services at all, no matter the size of the church. Given that our multi-generational community mingles by choice and by the configuration of our space, there is no way to create adequate “social distancing.” Given that hand sanitizer is not to be found, this compounds the problem of necessary hygiene. Given that we have a responsibility to protect the most vulnerable among us, we have made this decision for the good of all. As you know, the status of COVID-19 in our local area is changing almost hourly, so please stay tuned for further updates.
In addition, all classes and meetings, including Wildlife Workday, Wise Women, and Wednesday and Thursday classes are suspended for the near future. April 5 potluck lunch will not be held unless you are otherwise notified.
