March 12th, 2020 - A New Easter for a New World
We are all familiar with the themes of rebirth and renewal as we celebrate Easter. We are familiar with the notion that Easter is not just a one-time-in- the-year holy day, but more a practice that we can incorporate every day. We are familiar with the archetypal “darkness before the light” motif. But this year, as we celebrate Easter in a totally new way, let us extend our consciousness to embrace ALL Christians who celebrate this day. It doesn’t matter what denomination it is, whether or not we agree with their theology, or whether or not we are familiar with the demonstration of the message. The point is that now, more than ever, we shall practice expanding our awareness to embrace more and more of humanity. Why not start with others who find this day extraordinary? Why not extend our goodwill (and maybe our own brokenness that is being healed) toward those whom, under different circumstances, we might be more focused on our differences than our similarities? We are called to a mighty stretch in so many ways right now; let’s do that together on this beautiful Sunday.
March 5th, 2020 - The Brave Journey
We celebrate Palm Sunday this week, marking Jesus’s final journey into Jerusalem and his last week of public ministry. It was a journey of courage and humility. We too are making brave strides in our physical and spiritual journey right now. Just as Jesus walked into the unknown, so are we. Just as Jesus continued his work in spite of the noise around him, so do we. Just as Jesus looked bravely into any fear or resistance, so can we. And what is our “Jerusalem?” It is our personal Holy City of fulfillment and wholeness that is a beacon shining into our every moment.
March 29, 2020 - The Gift of Shedding
Borrowing again from the wonderful Mark Nepo, the readings from The Book of Awakening for this weekend are beautifully relevant for the times in which we are living. Last Sunday we talked about integrating our shadow; this week we look at the spiritual practices of letting go, renunciation, renewal, and what keeps us from doing it. Are we fearful? Are we trying to make another person comfortable? Are we so accustomed to doing things the way we have always done them that we are missing out on the "juiciness" of life? Now is a good time for "shedding" the old and unnecessary.
March 22nd, 2020 - From the Shadows to Unconditional Love
The negative and positive Shadows in us point our way to the path of unconditional love. As we recognize our projections and embrace all that is good about us, we find it easier and more natural to extend our generosity and compassion to ourselves and others.
March 15th, 2020 - Loves Lines, Angles, and Rhymes
Our beautiful human minds love to organize, categorize and prioritize our feelings and experiences - even the heartfelt spiritual ones. Sometimes the art of simple observation is all we need for our emotional evolution.
March 8, 2020 - Fear, Anger, and Guilt... Oh My!
Anyone identify with these lovely feelings? The only way past these all-too-human conditions is through them---but we’re not alone. Spirit provides illumination and comfort along the way.
March 1, 2020 - The Spiritual Art of Growing Up
“Full adulthood includes both psychological health and spirituality.” ---David Richo We begin our psychospiritual journey this month by exploring the difference between our human self and our spiritual Self. Our spiritual growth reveals unresolved areas of psychological health. Working in psychological modalities leads to greater spiritual growth. It is our path to wholeness and integrated maturity.
Feb. 23rd, 2020 - The Gifts of Freedom
Freedom is an inside revelation of knowing who we are as children of God that gifts us a way of seeing and therefore a new way of being in our world.
Feb. 16th, 2020 - Watch Your Mouth
Our words have more power than we realize! They have the ability to shape Divine Substance, thereby playing an important role in our lives and experiences. Are you conscious about what you say, or are you stuck in the same habitual words that victimize or disempower you? Do you know the difference between “I am” and “I AM”? Let’s focus on “watching our mouths” and what they say!
Feb. 9th, 2020 - It Works If You Work It
Spiritual principles are merely nice words with a good philosophy behind them---unless we apply them to our everyday thinking and actions. As we honor New Thought leaders during Black History Month, we examine the life and powerful teachings of Rev. Dr. Johnnie Colemon. And then we "work them!" We put into practice those principles that transform our lives.
