"Every Wednesday in May we will take a mindful look at the precious resource that is our mental and emotional health.

We are blessed to have the wisdom and experience of 4 practitioners in the field of Health and Wellness who will share healthy habits, methods and restorative modalities to strengthen and shore up our minds. Here are the topics we will cover:

May 6: Jan McGowan

The Breath of Life

Breath is vital to our living body, our spirit and our emotional well-being.  Becoming more attuned to the breath can improve memory, anxiety levels, digestion and chronic pain among other things. Learning about the breath and becoming more efficient at breathing can not only boost energy levels and improve thinking, it can also enhance the connection between the body and mind. There are a range of breathing practices that can be used to enhance breathing. Practicing these techniques even for just a few minutes a day will help you to develop better habits

Jan holds a B.S. degree in elementary education from the University of North Texas and a masters degree in Liberal Arts from Southern Methodist University. She taught in the Richardson, Texas ISD for twenty years and the Dripping Springs ISD for five years. Upon retirement she received her advanced Yoga Teacher training with Sacred Art Studio in Houston. She continues teaching at the Orange Moon Studio in Wimberley and the Transcendental Meditation Dome of Austin

May 13: Jan Venable, M.Ed., LPC-S

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)  Tapping

EFT is used to focus on the meridian points by "tapping" these energy hot spots to restore balance to your body’s energy. It’s believed that restoring this energy balance can relieve symptoms a negative experience or emotion may have caused. Based on Chinese medicine, meridian points are thought of as areas of the body energy flows through. These pathways help balance energy flow to maintain your health. Any imbalance can influence disease or sickness.

Jan is a practicing psychotherapist and counselor for more than 25 years who works with both adolescents and adults and specializes in healing trauma, anxiety, and codependency. She has a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Texas in Austin and my Masters in Counseling from Texas State University in San Marcos.
