Amigos de Jesus is an ecumenical program that reaches out to the Hispanic community of Wimberley.
Volunteers and sponsors from several local faith communities - including Unity of Wimberley - coordinate and facilitate this humanitarian program that is backed by generous benefactors as well as other contributions. The recipients of its services are good, law-abiding families just attempting to survive.
The Amigos de Jesus Open House was held Sunday, February 10, 2019 at their new facility on Melody Lane. Unity of Wimberley was personally invited and thanked for having supported this program since its inception. Below are just some of the services it provides:
Water filtration systems for homes with undrinkable water
Bikes for adults to use for transportation
Work clothing for male workers as well as coats, hats and gloves to families in the Fall
Distribution of frozen as well as other food items
Turkeys and sides to prepare at Thanksgiving provided to families for $2
Amigos de Jesus does not provide legal services but does make referrals to people in need of help. They have provided transportation to people applying for Green Cards and citizenship. They also work in cooperation with the Barnabas Connection, so services are complimentary and not overlapping.
A special thanks to our own Marilyn Van Hoozer for representing us at the Open House, for spearheading our recent food drive and for following a Divine nudge to create the "Feed My People" food pantry (see below) right here at Unity of Wimberley. Please see Marilyn if you hear the call to be of service.
